Connectivism and Social Learning in Practice

Social learning is a big part that my students this year need help with.  Ideas of having "cooperative learning groups should be rather small in size," (Pitler, 2007). is a great idea; that is, if some of my students understood how to act in a small group without having to look at me every 2 minutes they have an issue with any person I place them with.  I then see the idea of "face-to-face, promotive interaction," (Pitler, 2007) where the students have to help each other and not rely on me.  I feel as this could get ugly or work out really well.  My students would be perfect to work in groups because they are all capable, it's just a matter of having them all accept each other in their classes that is a big problem.  Using multimedia and the idea given in the text about creating a movie project is a great idea!  This makes me think of our VoiceThreads that we had to complete this week.  Using a rubric is a key component to make sure the expectation is met, but still having the students able to work successfully is going to be my greatest challenge.  One thought I have is that I have one group of students that I am referring to.  If my other groups could start this technology task and be successful with it then maybe my other class will see how enjoyable the project is and maybe get their act together.  This could also plummet on me and be completely negative.
